People ask us this all the time, so here is an honest answer from a local cab company: both have their place. What matters is where you are and what time it is.
In the middle of the day
Rideshare can work well for a quick trip when plenty of drivers are around. Open the app, see what it shows for your pickup point, and decide.
Early mornings and late nights
This is where it gets harder. Spruce Grove and Stony Plain are a fair way from where most rideshare drivers wait, and at 4 a.m. there may not be one nearby at all. That is fine for a trip that can wait. It is not fine before a 6 a.m. flight.
Why pre-booking matters
When you pre-book a cab, a driver is planned for your pickup time before you go to bed. You are not refreshing an app at the curb hoping a car appears.
A price that does not jump
App prices can rise when it is busy. Our airport fares are flat: $65 from Spruce Grove and $75 from Stony Plain to Edmonton International Airport, whatever the time. Local trips are quoted before you ride.
So which should you use?
- Quick daytime hop, lots of cars in the app: use whichever is easier.
- A flight, an appointment or anything you cannot be late for: pre-book.
- Late at night out here: call a local cab.
We run 24 hours a day. See our 24-hour taxi page, or call +1 780 935 3690.
A few quick questions
Are rideshare apps available in Spruce Grove?
Rideshare apps do work in the area, but how many cars are nearby changes a lot with the time of day. Check the app for your time and pickup point.
Is a local taxi more reliable for early flights?
A pre-booked local cab has a driver planned for your pickup time, which is what you want at 4 a.m. before a flight.
Is a taxi more expensive than rideshare?
It depends on the trip and the time. Our airport fares are flat ($65 from Spruce Grove, $75 from Stony Plain), so they do not go up at busy times.
