Child wearing a seat belt in the back seat of a car

A couple travelling light and a family of five heading to the airport are two different jobs. Nobody minds either, but the second one goes better when we know about it ahead of time.

Numbers, not just names

When you book, tell us how many people are coming and roughly how many bags. “Four of us and five suitcases” is a useful sentence. “A few bags” is not, because a few can mean two carry-ons or a hockey bag and a stroller. It is usually the last two bags that decide whether a regular sedan will do or you need the SUV.

Strollers, car seats and bulky things

Mention them. A folding stroller takes room. So do skis, golf clubs, and that giant duffel. If you are bringing a child seat of your own, tell us when you book so we can plan the space and talk through how it goes in.

Keep a small bag with you

Passports, boarding passes, phones, chargers, snacks, and whatever keeps a four-year-old busy. Not in the trunk. It sounds obvious until you are standing at the curb watching your trunk drive away in your head.

Before you leave the house

The trip home

On the way back you will probably have more bags than you left with, and a child who has fallen asleep on the plane. Mention that when you book the return ride. If you have picked up a stroller, a new suitcase or a stack of souvenirs, we would like to know before we pull up.

If someone in your group needs a hand

Grandparents, someone with a sore knee, anyone who takes stairs slowly. Say so when you book. The driver will help with bags, and knowing ahead of time means nobody is hurried getting in or out. It is a small thing that makes a big difference.

Airline baggage limits are not our call

We can only carry what fits in the car, and the airline decides what it will take on the plane. Weigh your bags at home so the counter is not where you find out.

Give yourselves a few extra minutes

Getting three kids into a car takes longer than getting one adult into it. Be ready a little before the pickup time, and if you are running late, call us. We would rather wait a few minutes than have you rushing.
