Stony Plain sits a bit further from the airport than Spruce Grove does, and that small difference is the reason we tell people to plan a little earlier. Nothing complicated. It is mostly about giving the trip enough room.
How long the drive takes
Plan on 45 to 50 minutes from town to the terminal in normal conditions. That is a distance of around 55 km. In summer it is easy driving. In January it is a different story, and we pad the pickup time for snow and ice without being asked.
What we ask when you call
It takes about a minute, and it is always the same short list:
- Your pickup address, and any detail that helps us find it.
- The date, and your flight time (or the time you want to be at the airport).
- How many of you are travelling, and roughly how many bags.
- A phone number that will actually ring at 4:30 in the morning.
That is it. If you would rather not talk on the phone, the booking form asks for the same things, and our dispatcher will call to confirm.
A typical early morning, start to finish
Say your flight is at 9:00 a.m. Two hours ahead puts you at the airport at 7:00. Take away the 45 to 50 minutes of driving and about 15 minutes of cushion, and you are being picked up somewhere around 5:50. You can shave the cushion on a dry summer day. In winter, do not.
The things people forget
Photo ID, obviously. Then the smaller stuff: a phone charger in your carry-on instead of your checked bag, a warm coat for the walk from the curb, and whatever paperwork you need for the trip. It is the classic turn-around moment, and it is always avoidable.
Why people choose a cab over driving
Mostly the boring reasons. Nobody wants to leave the car in airport parking for a week and pay for it. Nobody wants to ask a friend to be up at 4 a.m. And after a long flight, driving home tired is not great either. A cab means you get out at the door and walk in.
Stony Plain or Spruce Grove, does it matter?
People sometimes ask whether they should book with a Spruce Grove cab or a Stony Plain one. For us it makes no difference. We serve both towns, so you give us the address you are at and that is all we need.
Newer streets and the edges of town
Some parts of Stony Plain are new enough that maps have not caught up. If you live on a brand-new street or out on the edge of town, give us the nearest cross streets as well as the address, so the driver does not go round in circles.
Coming home
